A Bit About Me

Namaste, I am Ramya.

My path to yoga is not a straightforward one, and I think that is precisely what makes it useful to the students I teach.

I began my professional life as a research associate in cancer research at a reputed centre in Hyderabad. That work gave me something I carry into every classroom: an evidence-based, analytical approach to understanding the human body, how it responds to stress, how it heals, and what it needs to function at its best. Science, for me, was never separate from well-being. It was the language through which I first understood it.

What changed the direction of my life was a conscious decision to step away from that career and be present for my family. Motherhood, as it turned out, became one of the most educationally rich experiences of my life. As a mother of two, I encountered firsthand the physical, emotional, and behavioural complexity of growing children, the ways in which each child develops differently, the environments that support them and those that do not, and the profound role that movement, breath, and stillness can play in a child's sense of safety and self. That lived understanding is something no certification alone can provide, and it informs everything I teach about children's yoga.

My classical foundation is in Ashtanga Yoga, which I practised under the guidance of Saraswati Jois in Mysuru. That training deepened my respect for the rigour and intelligence of the classical tradition and sharpened my understanding of what it means to practice with discipline, precision, and genuine inward attention. I bring those qualities into my teaching, and I particularly enjoy sharing the subtleties of classical practice with students in the TTC programmes who are encountering this depth for the first time.

I hold a YCB Level 2 certification as a Yoga Wellness Instructor, a government-recognised qualification under the Ministry of AYUSH, and I serve as faculty at Ayushman Yog across two programmes. In the YCB Teacher Training Courses, I work with aspiring yoga teachers on the practical dimensions of their certification, bringing together classical training, therapeutic understanding, and the kind of teaching clarity that only comes from years of working with real students in real contexts.

In the Kids Yoga Teacher Training, my focus is on preparing teachers not just with techniques but with genuine developmental awareness, an understanding of how children grow neurologically, emotionally, and physically at each stage, and how yoga can be adapted to meet them where they are. This includes working with children who have diverse learning needs, including those on the autism spectrum or with other developmental differences. Teaching children's yoga responsibly requires more than enthusiasm. It requires knowledge, sensitivity, and a structured approach, and that is what I aim to build in every teacher who completes this programme.

My broader aim at Ayushman Yog is simple, though not easy: to help teachers experience yoga as a complete, integrated way of living, and to ensure that when they carry that practice into a room full of children, they do so with the skill, the awareness, and the care that children deserve.
